Pakistan’s Attack on Kabul, 400 Civilians Killed, Claims Taliban

New Delhi: While a fierce conflict continues on one front involving the US, Israel, and Iran, a tense atmosphere has now emerged on another front between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Currently, relations between the two nations remain strained, resulting in a deteriorating situation.

Pakistan reportedly carried out a bombing raid targeting a hospital in Kabul, an attack that claimed the lives of 400 people, while more than 250 others were injured. The condition of many of the injured remains critical, raising fears that the death toll could rise further. It was Afghanistan that first alleged this heinous act on the part of Pakistan; however, Pakistan has categorically rejected these claims.

What Did Afghanistan Say?

According to Sharafat Zaman, spokesperson for the Afghan Ministry of Public Health, an attack was launched against a hospital in Kabul that was currently serving as a drug rehabilitation centre. This attack resulted in the loss of many innocent lives. The underlying cause of this friction is the persistent tension between Pakistan and Afghanistan regarding the Balochistan region. Pakistan reportedly targeted the hospital with an airstrike, plunging the facility into chaos and screams of distress.

What Did Pakistan Say?

Responding to Afghanistan’s allegations, Musharraf Zaidi—spokesperson for Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif—completely dismissed the accusations levelled by Afghanistan. Pakistan’s Ministry of Information also clarified that the strikes were highly precise and were aimed exclusively at military installations and terrorist infrastructure; no locations inhabited by civilians were targeted.

Tensions Show No Signs of Abating

A state of tension persists along the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan. According to Afghan officials, four people—including two children—recently lost their lives in cross-border shelling near the frontier. Conversely, Pakistan has consistently alleged that various militant organisations operating within Afghanistan launch attacks against its territory. The Taliban government, on the other hand, has consistently denied these allegations.
