Big news for school students. From the new year, there will be major changes going to happen. Starting in 2026, there’s going to be a significant shift in the CBSE Board’s 10th class exams, as reported by various sources. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has made a major decision regarding this change.

From 2026 onward, the class 10 board exams will take place twice a year. This change aims to provide students with an additional opportunity to enhance their preparation and achieve better results.

So, how are things currently set up?

Right now, the board exams for both 10th and 12th grades are conducted annually between February and March. During the COVID-19 pandemic, CBSE temporarily split the exams into two sessions as a special measure. However, once things returned to normal, the board reverted to the traditional yearly exam format the following year.

According to CBSE, the first round of the 10th board exams will occur in February-March, while the second round will be in May. Students can choose to take both exams, but it’s not mandatory.

If a student isn’t happy with their performance in the first exam, they can take the second one to try and boost their scores. Reports indicate that the first phase of the 10th class board exam is scheduled from February 17 to March 6, 2026, and the second phase will run from May 5 to May 20, 2026.

What’s in it for the students?

With the option to take the exam twice a year, students can improve their scores if they don’t do well the first time around. This change is expected to ease exam pressure, allowing students to study more comfortably.

CBSE made this decision as part of the New Education Policy (NEP). The aim is to focus on students’ mental health and enhance their learning experience. This change is expected to ease exam-related stress and provide students with more chances to pursue their studies.
