People in Delhi-NCR were woken up by the strong tremors of the earthquake on Monday morning. The intensity of the earthquake that came at 5:36 am was measured at 4 on the Richter scale, which shook the buildings like a pack of cards.

The first tremor was very strong

The first tremor of the earthquake was so strong that it seemed as if the buildings would collapse right now. These tremors lasted for 4-5 seconds and then their intensity decreased in the form of aftershocks. People suddenly woke up and came out of their houses in fear. The most panic was seen among the people living in high-rise buildings. Many people could not even come out of their houses due to fear.

The epicenter of the earthquake was near New Delhi

According to the National Center for Seismology, the epicenter of the earthquake was near New Delhi. Due to its epicenter being 5 kilometers below the ground, tremors were felt till Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, Gurugram, Sonipat, Meerut and Bulandshahr. The loud sound that came with the earthquake scared people even more. People walking on the road also clearly felt the tremors.

Danger looms over Delhi-NCR

According to scientists, India has 5 zones according to the sensitivity of earthquakes. The Himalayas and the areas adjoining it are the most sensitive zone-5, where the danger of a major earthquake always remains. Delhi-NCR is in zone-4, which is situated on the banks of Yamuna and Hindon rivers. Due to the sandy land here, major earthquakes can also occur here, which can cause massive destruction. Especially the people living in high-rise buildings built around Yamuna are in danger.
