Only after that can you apply for a Permanent Driving Licence. However, many applicants fail to clear the driving licence test on their first attempt. Driving Licence Test in India: What Is the Process?
Driving Licence Test in India is conducted by the Regional Transport Office (RTO). Before appearing for the test, candidates must complete an online application form on the official transport department website. After completing the application and paying the fee, the applicant must visit the RTO on the assigned date to take the driving test.
If you pass the test, your permanent driving licence application will proceed smoothly. However, if you fail, there is no need to panic, as the rules allow you to reapply for the test.
Failed the Driving Licence Test? Here Is What You Can Do
If an applicant fails the Driving Licence Test in India, they may reapply. Generally, a waiting period of around seven days is given before you can reappear for the driving test. After this waiting period, you must submit a fresh application and pay the prescribed test fee again.
There is currently no limit on the number of attempts. You can continue taking the test until you pass. Transport authorities advise applicants to practice thoroughly, especially in areas where mistakes were made in the previous attempt.
Validity of Learning Licence Matters
It is important to note that a Learning Licence is valid for six months. This means all attempts for the permanent driving licence test must be completed within this validity period. If the Learning Licence expires, you will have to apply for it again before proceeding further.
Penalty for Driving Without a Licence
Under the Motor Vehicles Act, driving without a valid licence earlier attracted a fine of ₹500. However, this penalty has now been increased significantly. The fine has been increased to ₹5,000, nearly 10 times the previous amount. This strict rule highlights the importance of completing the Driving Licence Test in India and obtaining a valid licence before driving on public roads.
How to Apply for a Driving Licence Online?
To apply for a driving licence, applicants must visit the Transport Department’s official website. From there, select the Learning Licence option. The application process is Aadhaar-based, requiring submission of personal details, mobile number, and Aadhaar information. After OTP verification, the fee must be paid online, followed by appearing for the online Learning Licence test.
Once the Learning Licence is issued, candidates can apply for the permanent driving licence and book a slot for the RTO driving test.
