Strong Tremors Rock Delhi-NCR- Strong earthquake tremors were felt in northern India late on Sunday night. People from Delhi-NCR, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand came out of their homes in panic.
Where was the epicenter of the earthquake?
According to the National Center for Seismology, the intensity of the earthquake was recorded at 6.0 on the Richter scale. Its epicenter was in Asadabad area of Afghanistan-Pakistan border, which falls in the northern part of the Hindu Kush region. The depth of the earthquake is said to be about 29 kilometers.
Houses shook for 5–7 seconds in India
These tremors were felt for about 5 to 7 seconds in many states including Delhi-NCR. These tremors that came late at night woke people up from sleep and many people came out of their homes in fear.
Effect in neighboring countries too
Not only India, but also Pakistan, Tajikistan and Afghanistan also felt strong tremors of earthquake. People came out of their houses in panic in major cities of Pakistan like Islamabad, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Quetta and Gujranwala.
News of relief – no major damage reported
At present, no news of any major damage has been reported. However, experts say that there may be minor damage in the affected areas of Afghanistan and Pakistan. Due to the low intensity of the earthquake in India, it is a matter of relief that no major incident has been reported.
