Train Accident Update – Six people died and more than a dozen were injured in a train accident in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh. Passengers trapped in train coaches were rescued through a rescue operation. The injured have been admitted to the hospital. Some are reported to be in critical condition. Initial investigations revealed that the accident was caused by human error. The MEMU local train had violated a red signal.
An investigation will now be conducted to determine why this signal was violated. The train collided with the rear of a freight train, causing its bogie to derail. The train’s failure to obey the prescribed red signal is believed to be the most likely reason. The severity of the collision can be gauged from the fact that one of the train’s coaches ran over the cargo car.
Accident due to the driver’s overshooting
According to South East Central Railway sources, prima facie, the cause of the accident appears to be the MEMU train’s overshooting of a signal. According to the Railway Operations Department, when the train approached Bilaspur station, a freight train was already standing on the opposite line.
The MEMU train driver failed to stop at the signal, resulting in a direct collision with the freight train. The real cause will only be known after an investigation. Did the brakes fail to work? Many such questions are lingering in people’s minds.
Brake failure or human error? Many important questions.
The investigation team that arrived at the scene is investigating several key angles. Technical and human error are being investigated in the red signal overshoot. Railway officials believe that MEMU trains have modern signalling and braking systems, making a frontal collision highly likely.
Furthermore, the speed of the train at the time of the collision and the functioning of the braking system are being thoroughly investigated. An official stated that it would be premature to conclude the driver was at fault. The entire incident is being analysed.
Chaos ensued after the incident.
For information, panic erupted at the scene when a train carriage collided with the rear of a freight train. A rescue team arrived on the scene and took charge.
