Bilaspur Train Accident Update – Death Toll Rises to 5, Rs 10 Lakh Compensation Announced for Deceased Families

Bilaspur Train Accident Update:-  A Korba passenger train and a freight train collided in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh. Reports indicate that five people have tragically died in the accident, while 14 others are reported injured. According to Bilaspur District Collector Sanjay Agarwal, a local passenger train departed from Gevra Railway Station in Korba district for Bilaspur on Tuesday. A large crowd had gathered at the scene of the accident. The collision was reportedly so severe that several coaches of the MEMU train derailed, causing widespread chaos.

Bilaspur District Collector Sanjay Agarwal stated that the injured have been admitted to Apollo Hospital, Chhattisgarh AIIMS, and other hospitals in Bilaspur city. He said that one person admitted to Apollo Hospital remains in critical condition. Agarwal noted that during the accident, the first coach of the local train ran over the last coach of the freight train.

Families of the deceased will receive ₹10 lakh 

Compensation has been announced in the Bilaspur train accident. The families of the deceased will receive ₹10 lakh (100,000 to ₹500,000) in compensation, while the injured will receive ₹100,000 to ₹500,000 (100,000 to 500,000). A passenger train and a freight train collided head-on in the district. Five people have died in the accident, while 14 others are injured.

How did this tragic accident happen?

The accident occurred near Lalkhadan, just a few kilometres from Bilaspur station. According to eyewitnesses, the MEMU train was heading towards Howrah when it collided with a freight train coming from the opposite direction. The collision destroyed the front coach of the MEMU train. The derailed coaches transformed the surrounding area into a battlefield, echoing with screams and cries of passengers. Many passengers were trapped inside the coaches, and local residents and railway personnel rescued them.

Some had their hands amputated, others their legs amputated.

A passenger train and a freight train on the Howrah route collided head-on. Four people were killed in the accident. An eyewitness told the media that two or three people died right in front of him. After the accident, someone’s arm was severed, and someone’s leg was amputated.

IGP Sanjeev Shukla told news agency ANI about the Bilaspur train accident, “A memo train collided with a freight train. The engine compartment collided from the rear. Some people were injured. One person is trapped; rescue efforts are underway. Rescue operations are underway.”
