As per the official order, once a candidate clears the driving test, a chip-based driving licence will be issued within 24 hours. Previously, applicants often faced lengthy delays in receiving their physical cards, but the updated system aims to streamline the process.
Transport Department Given Clear Instructions
The Transport Department has been directed to strengthen the printing system for both driving licences and vehicle registration certificates across all districts. Each district must maintain sufficient card-printing material for at least 90 days. Officials have been clearly instructed that no negligence or delay will be tolerated in implementing this order.
Why the Change Was Needed?
Transport Minister Shravan Kumar issued this directive during a departmental review meeting. According to the department, Bihar receives more than 55,000 driving licence applications every month. In response to the increasing workload, the government decided to streamline and expedite the process to ensure timely licence delivery.
How to Apply for a Driving Licence?
There are two ways to apply for a driving licence in Bihar. Applicants can apply online via the official transport portal or complete the process offline at the nearest transport office. In both cases, appearing for and passing the driving test is mandatory. Once the test is cleared, the licence will now be issued within 24 hours under the new rule.
