Hydrogen Train: A new and green beginning is about to take place in the history of Indian Railways. On July 17th, Prime Minister Modi will flag off the country’s first indigenous hydrogen train from Jind, Haryana. This train will run as a special inaugural service on the Jind-Sonipat section of Haryana on July 17th. With this, India has joined the select group of countries such as Japan, the United States, Canada, and South Korea where hydrogen trains are currently in use. The first hydrogen train, running between Jind and Sonipat, will cover a total distance of 89 kilometers in 2 hours and will pass through 12 stations along the way.

We are excited to announce that train number 74010 will leave Jind railway station at 7:40 am and reach Sonipat railway station by 9:40 am. Furthermore, train number 74009 will depart from Sonipat at 10:40 am and arrive back at Jind at 1:00 pm.

Now, let’s discuss the remarkable features of this pioneering hydrogen train. It will consist of 10 coaches with a total of 682 seats, accommodating around 2,600 passengers. While the train has been successfully tested at a maximum speed of 120 km/h, its operational speed has been set at 75 km/h, as approved by the Railway Board. The train will be powered by a 2400 kW capacity, featuring a 1200 kW hydrogen fuel cell system engine.

Hydrogen trains, often referred to as “hydrails” or “H-trains,” are recognized as a more environmentally friendly and cleaner option compared to diesel engines on non-electrified rail lines, making them a pollution-free choice. The technology utilized in these trains involves hydrogen fuel cells that produce electricity through a chemical reaction, resulting in no CO2 emissions, only water vapor.

However, passengers will need to be patient a bit longer before they can ride this train, as a senior railway official mentioned that it will initially operate as a special service for its inaugural run on July 17. A timeline for when regular passenger services will commence has yet to be determined.

This is a matter of pride not only for Jind district but for the entire state of Haryana and the country. It will become a symbol of development and new energy.
