block scams on WhatsApp and OTT: Airtel is taking the lead in safeguarding its customers from increasing online threats. With online scams rising on messaging apps, OTT platforms, and emails, the telecommunication giant introduced an AI-based fraud detection system. This new feature aims to keep customers safe without any human intervention and will be introduced across India soon. Here’s how this security feature works for all Airtel customers.
Airtel’s New Fraud Detection Solution
Airtel has introduced a sophisticated system for detecting fraud that blocks malicious websites in real-time. The telecom service provider announced that the system is AI-driven and leverages a multi-layered intelligence platform that detects frauds and scams in real-time across various digital platforms. The solution analyzes internet traffic and filters it against global threat databases and internal data from Airtel to block suspicious links.
How It Works
Whenever a user of Airtel attempts to access a malicious website, the fraud detection software prevents the page from being accessed. Instead, it redirects the user to a new page stating the reason for blocking the page. This alerts the users to the threat without requiring them to have any technological knowledge. The feature is supported across different applications, such as OTT applications, email services, web browsers, and even social media applications like Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Telegram.
Free for All Airtel Customers
Airtel’s fraud detection feature is free of cost. It gets automatically activated for all mobile and broadband users. The subscribers are not required to activate anything manually, making it easy and efficient for everyone. The service was first initiated in the Haryana circle and will be rolled out to other circles in India in the next few days.
AI-Driven Threat Detection
The technology utilized by Airtel’s fraud detection is artificial intelligence. It detects threats and patterns by scanning traffic in real time. Airtel has been piloting the system for the past six months and witnessed high accuracy. The system utilizes real-time data analysis and can even block malicious content before it is delivered to the user’s device, says Gopal Vittal, Vice Chairman and Managing Director.
