500 Rupees Note: As technology progresses, fraudsters are becoming more sophisticated in producing counterfeit currency, which remains a significant concern. Despite numerous attempts to combat this issue, fake notes continue to circulate. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is now urging people to distinguish between real and counterfeit 500 rupee notes promptly.

The RBI is dedicated to its customers and regularly raises awareness through social media platforms. Recently, the RBI shared a post on its official Twitter account, X, explaining a crucial feature to identify authentic Rs 500 notes. The post includes an image of a 500 rupee note with a magnifying glass highlighting the “INDIA Bharat” line, along with instructions on spotting genuine notes.

The post emphasizes the significance of MICROLETTERING as a unique security feature. By understanding this feature, individuals can protect themselves from potential losses due to counterfeit notes. The RBI clarified that microlettering on the note, such as ‘Bharat’ and ‘INDIA’ on Mahatma Gandhi’s shawl fold, ‘RBI’ on the frame of Gandhi’s glasses, and ‘RBI500INDIA’ on the left side of the banknote, helps differentiate between real and fake notes.

RBI’s MANI app

RBI has created a special app for mobile users called MANI (Mobile Aided Note Identifier). This app is available for free on both Android and iOS. Simply open this fake note detector app on your phone. Turn on your phone’s camera and scan a 500 rupee note. This app will instantly tell you whether the note is real or fake. The special thing is that this app also works offline and can even detect slightly torn or worn notes.
