ESIC Rules: In a significant welfare measure for insured employees and their families, the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) has increased the funeral expenses benefit from Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000. According to the official Gazette notification of the Government of India, the revised amount will be effective from May 8, 2026.

ESIC Funeral Benefit Hike

The increase is intended to provide additional financial assistance to eligible families at a difficult time following the death of an insured person. Funeral expenses can create an immediate financial burden for families, and the enhanced benefit is expected to offer some relief to those eligible to receive it under the ESIC scheme.

The All India NPS Employees Federation (AINPSEF) has welcomed the decision, describing it as a welfare-oriented step for employees and their families. The federation has also urged representatives and employee organisations to spread awareness of the revised benefit among workers at the grassroots level.

Employees and their family members should stay informed about the applicable eligibility conditions and claim procedures so that they can access the benefit when required.
