EPFO: Good news for EPFO members. The Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has transferred interest payments to EPF accounts for the financial year 2025-26, with an approved interest rate of 8.25% on PF balances from the previous year. Private sector employees have been eagerly anticipating the interest amount to be credited to their accounts.

Subscribers are being notified via SMS about the interest credit, with many already receiving alerts confirming the transfer of interest for the FY26. However, the updated balance may not immediately reflect in the EPF account despite the alert, as the EPFO is currently in the process of updating millions of subscriber accounts, causing a delay in reflecting the funds.

Approximately Rs 1.44 lakh crore is set to be transferred annually to around 34 crore EPF accounts, with this year’s interest transfer process being expedited compared to previous years, thanks to the new Centralized IT Enabled System (CITES) platform implemented by the EPFO.

EPFO subscribers can verify the revised interest balance in their EPF account by logging into the EPFO Member Passbook portal using their UAN and password. By selecting “View Passbook” after logging in, they can view their EPF balance and interest amounts. It may take some time for the interest transfer to be reflected in the EPF account, as the EPFO updates accounts in stages, leading to a gradual update of all subscriber accounts.

Subscribers can also monitor their EPF balance through the Umang app, although the EPF balance feature is currently unavailable due to maintenance. The EPFO has transitioned all subscriber services online, including changes in withdrawal rules, allowing subscribers to withdraw up to 75% of their EPF balance under the EPF Scheme 2026.

If you don’t want to log in to the website, you can also check your PF balance via SMS. Your UAN must be active and your KYC complete. From your registered mobile number, send an SMS “EPFOHO UAN” to 7738299899. Your PF balance and last contribution information will arrive on your mobile shortly.

In addition, almost all PF-related services can be accessed through the UMANG app. After logging in with your UAN, you can view your balance, passbook, claim status, and pension-related information. The passbook can also be downloaded if needed.

What to do if interest is not visible?

Sometimes, even after interest is credited, it doesn’t immediately appear in the passbook. This could be due to technical updates or the time it takes for records to be updated. In such cases, there’s no need to worry. According to EPFO rules, full interest is credited to all accounts, even if it appears a few days later.
