UGC Issues Fake Universities List. If you or someone in your family is preparing for higher education, this news is extremely important for you. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has released a list of 22 fake universities operating across the country (Fake Universities List 2025). The Commission has clearly warned that these institutions are not recognised in any way, and degrees obtained from them will be considered invalid. UGC has urged students to verify the validity of the institution before taking admission to avoid any future problems.

Many students don’t do their due diligence before seeking admission to a university or institute for their studies, and thus end up enrolling in a fake university. This proves to be a huge mistake, as not only is money wasted, but the degree earned is also unrewarding because it is not accredited.

UGC made this important statement
UGC stated in its notice that all these institutions are operating without any legal authority or recognition. Some of them have misled students by using the word “University” in their names, even though they are not established under any central, state, or deemed university law.
UGC specifically mentioned the “Institute of Management and Engineering” located in Kotla Mubarakpur, Delhi, stating that this institution does not have the authority to grant degrees and its operation is completely illegal.
