School Closed: Most parts of the country are currently experiencing a severe cold wave. The intense cold and dense fog have made life very difficult for people. Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar are experiencing particularly harsh winter conditions. The cold wave continues to grip Patna, the capital of Bihar. Residents of Patna are facing significant challenges due to the cold and fog. The temperature in Patna is continuously dropping.
The mist has completely disrupted everyday life. It has become difficult for people even to leave their homes. Given the adverse effects on children’s health, the Patna district administration has declared school holidays for classes 1-8 until January 8th. Patna District Magistrate Dr. Thyagarajan S.M. issued an order on Saturday stating that all government and private schools in the district, up to class 8, will remain closed until January 8th.

The order states that, due to icy weather and low temperatures in the district, there is a risk of adverse effects on children’s health. In view of the current situation, and in continuation of this office’s order memo number 64/Law, dated 02.01.2026, I, Dr. Thyagarajan S.M., District Magistrate, Patna, under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Defence Code 2023, hereby impose a ban on all academic activities in all private/government schools (including pre-schools and Anganwadi centers) in Patna district up to class 8 until January 8, 2026.
Academic activities for classes above class 8 will be conducted from 10:30 AM to 3:30 PM. This order will be effective in Patna district from January 4, 2026, and will remain in force until January 8, 2026.

Schools Closed in Patna: When will schools reopen?
According to the issued order, schools will now reopen on January 9th. However, if the weather conditions do not improve, the holidays may be extended further. No notification regarding this has been issued yet. Anganwadi centres will be open from 12 PM to 2 PM to provide hot meals to children. The district administration has instructed all school management to reschedule their educational activities in accordance with this order. This order will apply only to academic activities. Other administrative functions of schools and institutions will continue as usual.
