New Delhi: The Indian women’s cricket team created history in the ICC ODI World Cup. They defeated South Africa in the title clash to become world champions. This marked the third time the women’s team had entered the title race in five decades of cricket history. The Harman Brigade has lifted the trophy. Batting first, India set a target of 299 runs for South Africa.
Shefali and Deepti performed brilliantly, scoring half-centuries. Chasing the target, South Africa could only manage 246 runs. Thus, the Indian women’s team won the title by 52 runs. Deepti Sharma, who played a key role in the match, also took five wickets. The match was played at the DY Patil Stadium. At one point, it seemed that South Africa might win the match, but the performance of the Indian players shattered the opponents’ hopes.

She scored only 23 runs. Furthermore, in the 12th over, Sri Charani dealt the African team another blow when Bosch returned to the pavilion without scoring. In 18 overs, South Africa’s score had crossed 100 runs. The 21st over proved to be the turning point for India when Shefali dismissed Luus, scoring 25 runs. Shafali also performed brilliantly in the 23rd over, dismissing Marizanne Kapp. Kapp contributed only 4 runs.

The Indian women’s cricket team, batting first, managed to post a big total. The Indian team got off to a strong start. Shefali Verma and Smriti Mandhana opened the innings for India. The duo overpowered the South African bowlers. India crossed the 50-run mark in the 7th over.
100 runs were reached in 17.2 overs. Mandhana returned to the pavilion after scoring 45 runs. India suffered the first setback. Jemima and Shefali then took charge and took India’s score past 150 in the 25th over. The batsmen then held their nerve and managed to score 298 runs. However, the team did face setbacks in between.
