All employed individuals have PF accounts, which serve as a savings account. Each month, 12% of an employee’s salary goes into this account, and the employer matches that contribution. The funds in the PF account also earn interest from the Government of India. If necessary, you can withdraw money from your PF account.
While many people view their PF account as a regular savings account, there have been instances where companies have deducted PF contributions from employees but failed to deposit them. If you find yourself in this situation, you can file a complaint. You can easily check online whether your PF contributions are being deposited each month.
To check your PF balance online, simply visit the official EPFO Member passbook portal at https://passbook.epfindia.gov.in/MemberPassBook/login.
To check your PF account, start by entering your UAN number and password. Next, fill in the captcha code and hit the sign-in button. Once you’re in, you’ll see all your PF accounts listed. Just pick the one you want to check the balance for, and all the details will pop up, showing you when and how much has been contributed.
Alternatively, you can also find out your PF balance by sending a text from your mobile. Just type ‘EPFOHO UAN’ and send it to 7738299899. You’ll receive the balance info on the mobile number linked to your PF account.
