If you have a car, you know about FASTag. It is used to pay tolls on highways and expressways. Some time ago, the government made an annual FASTag pass to help people. Paying tolls with FASTag also gives discounts. But many people still do not use FASTag.

Before, people without FASTag had to pay double toll. Now, the government changed the rule. Drivers without FASTag will not pay double toll. Some conditions apply. The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways changed the National Highway Fee Rules, 2008. This new rule will start from November 15, 2025.

The condition is that drivers must pay toll using a UPI ID. If they pay by cash, they still pay double toll. This change is to make people use digital payments.

What Has Changed?

Before, people paying with UPI or cash had to pay double toll. Now, if a person pays with UPI, they pay only 1.25 times the toll. People paying with cash still pay double.

For example, before, a car without FASTag paid ₹200 for a ₹100 toll, no matter how they paid. Now, from November 15, a car paying with UPI pays ₹125. Cars paying with cash still pay ₹200.

FASTag Annual Pass

The government made a FASTag annual pass. It is useful for people who travel on highways often. This pass is for private and non-commercial vehicles like cars, jeeps, and vans. The annual FASTag pass costs ₹3,000 and lets people cross 200 toll gates in one year.
