The Election Commission has released the state’s draft voter list under SIR 2026 (Special Intensive Revision), in which the names of approximately 5.8 million voters have been removed. There’s no need to worry! The Election Commission has given all such voters ample time to file claims and objections.
Why were names removed from the voter list
According to the Election Commission, there are several reasons behind the removal of voter names from the draft list. Some of these voters were found to be deceased, some had permanently relocated, some were missing or had not been present at their address for a long time, and some were found to be duplicates because their names were registered at multiple locations.
This does not mean that all names were removed incorrectly. If your name was removed by mistake, you can have it re-added. To ensure that no eligible voter is deprived of voting, the Commission has initiated this extensive verification process.
When is the opportunity open?
Those whose names have been removed from the voter list should definitely file a claim. The Election Commission has established a straightforward process for this. You can file your claim or objection from December 16, 2025, to January 15, 2026. You have approximately one month to file your complaint. It is crucial to take action within this timeframe.
How to file a complaint or claim online
You can initiate the process of re-adding your name to the voter list online from the comfort of your home. Follow these steps:
First, visit the official website of the National Voter Service Portal (NVSP).
Then log in. If you don’t have an account, create a new one.
After logging in, fill out Form 6. This form is for those who want to add their name for the first time or who need to re-add their name.
Upload the required documents, such as identity proof, address proof, etc. Ensure the uploaded documents are clear and valid.
Finally, submit the form. Your complaint will be reviewed within a few days, and you will receive a status update.
What to do if you can’t file an online complaint?
If you’re having trouble filing a complaint via mobile or the internet, don’t worry. You can use these simple offline methods. Call the Election Commission’s helpline number 1950 for help. You will receive complete information there.

Alternatively, visit your local BLO (Booth Level Officer). Submit a passport-sized photo, identity and address proof, and fill out Form 6. The BLO will verify your information and forward it to the Election Commission.
