Vande Bharat Sleeper Train: Good news for train passengers. Now you will soon travel in Vande Bharat Sleeper Train. The plant for the manufacture of Vande Bharat Sleeper trains has been started. These trains will be manufactured jointly by Titagarh Rail Systems Limited (TRSL) and Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL). In partnership with these two companies, a new production unit was launched for the manufacture of Vande Bharat Sleeper Train at the plant located in Uttarpara, West Bengal. About 80 Vande Bharat Sleeper trains will be manufactured in this unit.
What is special about Vande Bharat Sleeper Train?
This will be the country’s first long distance sleeper train, which will run at semi high speed. Passengers will get the facility to travel lying down, which was not available in Vande Bharat trains till now.

Indian Railways has entered into a TRSL-BHEL alliance for the manufacturing of Vande Bharat Sleeper trains. TRSL-BHEL will manufacture 80 Vande Bharat sleeper trains from its manufacturing unit in Uttarpara. Both these companies will maintain them for 35 years. TRSL-BHEL has been given a contract worth around Rs 24,000 crore for the manufacture of Vande Bharat sleeper trains.
Features of Uttarpara Plant
1. Production of Vande Bharat sleeper trains has now started at the Uttarpara plant in West Bengal.
2. This is the only site in India where stainless steel and aluminium coaches can be manufactured at the same place.
3. At present, the production capacity of this plant is to manufacture 300 coaches per year, which can be increased to 850 coaches per year if needed.
Who all were present during the inauguration?
The inauguration ceremony of the new production unit at Uttarpara in West Bengal for the manufacture of Vande Bharat sleeper trains was attended by TRSL Vice Chairman and MD Umesh Chaudhary along with BHEL Director Bani Verma and senior officials of both the companies. The manufacture of Vande Bharat sleeper trains will give a new direction to the country’s rail network. This initiative not only promotes Make in India, but will also provide passengers with a travel experience of the future.
