If the mobile number on the Driving License (DL) or Vehicle Registration Certificate (RC) is incorrect, there is no need to worry. Now, you can correct this mistake online in a few minutes from home. There is no need to visit any RTO or government office for this.

According to the Ministry of Transport, currently about 45 percent of the mobile numbers registered on Driving License and RC are incorrect or invalid. As a result, many people are not getting e-challans, traffic notices or other important vehicle-related information on time.

According to experts, having the correct mobile number on DL and RC is very important. If the number is correct, the traffic challan information reaches the mobile directly. Along with this, updates related to vehicle tax, insurance, permits are also available on the same number. The correct mobile number also plays a big role in verifying and using documents on DigiLocker and Mparibahaan apps.

How to Update Your Driving Licence & RC Mobile Number Easily From Home

To correct the wrong mobile number, first you have to enter the official website of the Transport Department, parivahan.gov.in. There, you have to go to the ‘Online Services’ section and select the option of vehicle-related services. Then, if you click on the ‘Other Services’ or ‘Miscellaneous Services’ section, you will see the ‘Update Mobile Number’ option. After clicking on this option, you have to enter the vehicle registration number and chassis number.

After providing all the information correctly, you have to enter the new mobile number and click on the ‘Generate OTP’ option. After verifying the OTP received on that number, the update process will be completed once the application is submitted. The Transport Department has said that the mobile number will be updated only after the OTP verification and once the process is completed, the new number will be automatically added to the driving license and RC.

As per the advice of the authorities, the mobile number that is being updated should be registered in the name of the applicant. Once the number is corrected, important information related to e-challans, traffic alerts and other vehicles will be available on that new number. As a result, the risk of missing any important notice in the future will be greatly reduced.
