Union Budget 2026: Today, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is delivering her 9th budget in the Lok Sabha. While doing so, she highlighted various topics including domestic manufacturing, the healthcare sector, energy security, poverty alleviation, and job creation. She pointed out that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership over the past 12 years, the economy has experienced stability, financial discipline, steady growth, and low inflation. According to her, these achievements are a result of the careful decisions made by the central government during challenging and uncertain times.
The cost of medicines will be cheaper
In her ninth budget presentation in the Lok Sabha, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman made several important announcements for the healthcare sector. She mentioned that medications for diabetes and cancer will be more affordable. Furthermore, there will be an investment of 10,000 crore rupees in the pharmaceutical industry. This budget also introduced Bio Pharma Shakti, a new initiative aimed at drug development.
Biopharma Shakti announced in the budget
The Biopharma Shakti initiative was unveiled in Budget 2026. Its goal is to position India as a global hub for biopharma manufacturing. Biopharma Shakti will be initiated with a budget of Rs 10,000 crore over the next five years. Plans include the construction of three new Ayurvedic hospitals, improvements to medical care for the elderly, and the establishment of five new regional medical centers. This budget also highlights the importance of training veterinary doctors.
The Finance Minister further noted that we have been focused on economic development for the last 12 years. She emphasized that the country is making significant progress economically, and during this period, our government has been dedicated to reducing poverty. Additionally, she mentioned that the government is consistently working to boost investment.
