Aadhaar Card New Update: A major update regarding Aadhaar cards is coming soon. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced a new type of Aadhaar card that will only contain a photo and a QR code. This new Aadhaar card will not display the address, date of birth, or any other personal information. This step by UIDAI is being taken to prevent the misuse of people’s personal data and to curb fraudulent offline verification. UIDAI has provided information regarding this.
Why is this change being made?
According to UIDAI, if more information is printed on the Aadhaar card, people will start using photocopies of it as genuine, which increases the risk of data leaks. Therefore, a system has been created where the Aadhaar card will only contain a photo and a QR code. With this system, hotels, event organisers, and other institutions will not be able to perform offline verification using photocopies of the Aadhaar card. This also makes age verification more secure.

Offline Verification to be Stopped
In fact, the Aadhaar Act already prohibits keeping photocopies of Aadhaar cards and offline verification. Despite this, many hotels, banks, and companies still keep copies of Aadhaar cards. UIDAI is now preparing to introduce rules that will discourage the use of physical Aadhaar card copies. UIDAI clearly states that Aadhaar should be verified only through the number or QR code, not as a document.
New Aadhaar App to Replace mAadhaar
UIDAI is soon going to launch a new Aadhaar app that will replace the existing mAadhaar app. This new app is being developed in accordance with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act and will be fully implemented in the next 18 months.
Key Features of the New Aadhaar App
Several modern features will be added to the new app.
It will include a facility to update address proof.
It will also allow adding family members who do not have a mobile phone.
There will be a facility to update mobile numbers through face authentication. This involves QR-based Aadhaar verification for hotel check-in, event entry, cinema halls, purchase of age-restricted items, student verification, and society entry.

How will Aadhaar verification work?
First, the Aadhaar holder will show their QR code to the scanner.
Then the system will request face verification.
This will also ensure that the Aadhaar holder is physically present at the location.
UIDAI will soon approve the OVSE app, after which the technical integration will begin.
