Traveling internationally from Delhi Airport is set to become pricier for passengers. The Airport Economic Regulatory Authority (AERA) has given the green light for a new and higher User Development Fee (UDF) for international travelers starting April 16, 2025. However, domestic passengers will not see any changes to their fees.

AERA noted that 80% of the traffic at Delhi airport consists of domestic travelers, which is why the UDF for them remains unchanged. Currently, those flying domestically pay Rs 129 when departing and Rs 56 when arriving, and these rates will stay the same moving forward.

New UDF rates for international travelers will vary based on the class of service.

For those flying in business class, the fee will be Rs 810 when departing and Rs 345 upon arrival.

Airlines will also see changes in landing charges. AERA has announced that these charges will vary between wide-body and narrow-body aircraft, impacting both domestic and international flights.

Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) initially requested a staggering 730% increase in airport fees, but AERA capped it at 140% after careful consideration. AERA explained that this increase is necessary for the airport operator to cover essential capital expenses, uphold operational quality, and enhance service standards.

Why are there different fees for business and economy passengers? AERA stated that the varying UDF rates for international economy and business class travelers align with the ‘user pays’ principle. Since business class passengers enjoy more amenities and a superior experience, their UDF rates are set higher. AERA also emphasized that landing and parking fees have been kept competitive to ensure airlines aren’t financially burdened and can continue their operations smoothly.
