Sovereign Gold Bond: There is important news for those who invest in Sovereign Gold Bond (SGB). Actually, the last date for application for premature redemption in April 2025 is nearing. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) had informed in a press release on 21 February 2025 that the last date for application for premature redemption has been fixed in April 2025. If you do not apply within the time limit, you may have to wait for the next redemption cycle.
The lock-in period is 5 years
Actually, Sovereign Gold Bond (SGB) is an investment instrument with a maturity period of 8 years and a lock-in period of 5 years. Under this scheme, investors can redeem their bonds before maturity on certain dates after five years. If you have also invested in Sovereign Gold Bond and are planning to redeem it after five years, you should know the application dates carefully.
Know what is the redemption date
Premature redemption of three major SGB tranches is going to happen in April 2025. These include SG 2017-18 Series III, SG 2017-18 Series IV and SG 2017-18 Series V. Let us know about their dates.
1. The redemption date for SG 2017-18 Series III is 16 April 2025. The last date for application for this is 7 April 2025. Investors can apply for redemption through Retail Direct, NSDL/CDSL/RBI Retail Direct.
2. SG 2017-18 Series IV redemption date is 23 April 2025. The last date for application for this is 15 April 2025. Investors must apply for premature redemption before this date.
3. The redemption date for SG 2017-18 Series V is April 30, 2025 and applications can be made till April 21, 2025.
4. Apart from this, the premature redemption of SG 2017-18 Series VI is going to happen on May 6, 2025, for which the last date of application is April 28, 2025.
