New Delhi: Amidst considerable political turbulence, today has gone down in history as Tamil Nadu received its new Chief Minister. Vijay, whose party won 108 seats in the assembly elections, took the oath of office as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Along with him, nine other leaders also took the oath as ministers. Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was also present at the swearing-in ceremony.

Contesting elections for the very first time, Vijay had founded his political party just two years ago. In this election, ‘Thalapathy’ Vijay received overwhelming support from the public. There was considerable drama surrounding Vijay’s swearing-in ceremony; his party had fallen short of a majority by a mere 10 seats. However, other parties—including the Congress—extended their support to him, enabling his party to secure the necessary majority.

Governor Intervenes During Oath-Taking

During the swearing-in ceremony, the Governor interrupted Thalapathy Vijay. As soon as Vijay stepped forward to take the oath, the Governor asked him to read from the official text provided to him. However, Vijay began delivering a speech instead. Meanwhile, the people present at the venue began applauding. A few minutes later, realising that Vijay was delivering a speech rather than reading the prescribed oath text, the Governor intervened and instructed him to read the official oath document.

Before this, he had been associated with the AIADMK party for a long period. P. Venkataramanan, the newly elected MLA from Mylapore, also took the oath as a minister. He has been associated with Vijay for a long time. In the year 2000, he was Vijay’s manager.
