It should be noted that there are many people in the country who, due to financial constraints, are unable to afford even one meal a day. For such people, the Government of India is providing free rations under the National Food Security Act. However, recently, the government has tightened its grip on ration card holders who are not eligible and are still receiving the benefits of the rations.

These people’s names have been removed

It should be noted that in many places, deceased individuals and their family members were receiving free ration benefits in their names. To prevent this, the government has initiated verification. Following this verification, the names of all ineligible ration card holders are being removed. Over the past few years, the government has removed the names of 2.25 crore people from the free ration scheme.

According to the Ministry, the free ration benefit is only provided to eligible individuals. Therefore, state governments are re-verifying the names of eligible individuals so that only those in need can receive the ration benefits. The investigation revealed that many people obtained ration cards solely to benefit from the government scheme. Some have only been receiving ration benefits for six months. For this reason, the government is considering removing such families from the PDS list.

Check your name on the list

If you believe your name has been removed from the list, you can check. For this, you have to visit nfsa.gov.in and then select the ration card option. After this, click on Ration Card Details on the State Portals. Now you have to select your state, district, block and panchayat. After this, you have to select your ration shop and card type.

After this, the list will appear in front of you. If your name is present, then your card will be activated. If not, then the name will be removed. Along with this, you must also remember that you must get e-KYC done. Those ration cards for which eKYC has not been done will be deactivated beforehand.
