Ration Card Update: Almost every family in India has a ration card, which lists the names of all family members. The ration card is not only a document of identity but also a crucial means of availing the benefits of various government schemes. This card provides essential commodities like wheat, rice, pulses, and oil, provided free of charge or at subsidised rates. Therefore, when a new member joins the family, such as a newborn baby or a newlywed daughter-in-law, it becomes essential to have their name registered on the ration card.

Now, there’s no need to visit government offices to add a new member’s name to the ration card, as this can be done online. The head of the family must have a pre-existing ration card. For adding a child’s name, their birth certificate and their parents’ Aadhaar cards are required. For adding a newly married woman’s name, their Aadhaar card, marriage certificate, and their parents’ ration card are required.
The process of adding a new member to the ration card is quite simple. First, you need to visit the official website of your state’s Food and Supplies Department. Create a new account or sign in with your existing login ID. Once logged in, you’ll see the option to add a new member to your family, which you need to click on.

This opens an online form, which requires you to carefully fill in all the necessary information related to the new member. Scanned copies or photos of the required documents must also be uploaded along with the form. Once all the information is filled in correctly and the documents are uploaded, the form is submitted.
Uploading the form provides a registration number, which can be used to track the application status online. The relevant department then verifies the form and documents. If all the information is found to be correct, the new member’s name is added to the ration card. This way, you can easily update your ration card from the comfort of your home.
