PM Kisan Update – Will PM Kisan Amount Double From Rs 6,000 to Rs 12,000? Check What the Govt Says

PM Kisan Yojana Update : A big topic that’s been buzzing among farmers is whether the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana will see its annual payout rise from Rs 6,000 to Rs 12,000. In December 2024, a parliamentary standing committee suggested that farmers should receive Rs 12,000 a year, considering the current economic climate. On December 12, 2025, Rajya Sabha MP Samirul Islam asked the government for clarity on this matter.

In response, Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Ramnath Thakur, made it clear that the government isn’t looking at any proposal to increase the amount. So, as it stands, there are no plans to double the PM Kisan payment, which has wrapped up the discussions among farmers.

Is having a Farmer ID necessary or not?

MP Samirul Islam raised another key question: Is it mandatory to have a Kisan ID to get PM Kisan payments? Minister of State Ramnath Thakur replied that a Kisan ID is only needed for new registrations, and only in the 14 states where the farmer registry is being set up. In states where this process hasn’t started yet, farmers can still register for the scheme without a Kisan ID. The minister also shared information about farmers in states that haven’t registered for a Kisan ID yet.

What is the PM Kisan Yojana and who can benefit from it?

The PM Kisan Samman Nidhi is a central government initiative that kicked off in February 2019. Its goal is to provide annual financial support of ₹6,000 to farmers who own cultivable land. This money is sent in three installments of ₹2,000 each directly to farmers’ bank accounts linked to their Aadhaar through DBT. However, this scheme is only for landowning farmers, and certain financially stable groups are not eligible.

How can farmers check the beneficiary list?

Farmers can easily find their names on the beneficiary list by going to the official PM Kisan website, pmkisan.gov.in. They just need to select the Beneficiary List option in the Farmers Corner section of the site and entering the state, district, block, and village will reveal the complete list.
