Why did the Railways take this big step?

According to railway officials, 20% to 25% of waiting tickets are usually confirmed before the journey. Previously, waiting tickets were issued, leading to people traveling in reserved coaches, which would then lead to overcrowding in trains. The Railways have implemented this rule to reduce this type of inconvenience.

How the new rule will work

According to the new policy, each zonal railway will have to set a waiting ticket limit based on booking and cancellation patterns. The aim is to ensure passengers receive more convenient and reliable tickets, and no train will issue a waiting list.

Previously, waiting lists reached 30 in AC 1, 100 in AC 2, 300 in AC 3, and 400 in Sleeper. This often resulted in more passengers than confirmed tickets, leading to chaos and overcrowding.

What are the available berths?

Available berths refer to the remaining berths after all reservations, such as for women, the disabled, and senior citizens, are filled. 25% of these seats are issued as waiting tickets. This ensures a balanced system.

Relief during festivals

It is often observed that waiting lists become longer during Diwali and Chhath Puja. According to the new railway rule, the waiting list rate will be significantly reduced, and passengers will be able to travel more easily.
