Railways Ticket Rules: To ride on suburban (local) trains or general class trains, passengers need to get unreserved tickets. You can book these tickets both online and offline. Thanks to Indian Railways’ online booking system, getting tickets has become a lot easier for travelers and helps reduce crowding at train stations. But remember, if you’re traveling with an online (paperless) unreserved ticket, you must carry certain documents with you to avoid any issues.

For offline bookings, passengers should head to PRS counters at railway stations or Yatri Suvidha Kendras, which are available at various stations during busy hours. For online bookings, you can buy unreserved tickets through the UTS and RailOne mobile apps.
Indian Railways Unreserved Ticket Booking Rules
The national transporter made it clear on Friday that passengers who buy physical unreserved tickets, whether online or offline, must keep the physical ticket with them during the journey. However, for digital unreserved tickets booked online without a printed copy (paperless), passengers can simply show the ticket on the same mobile device used for booking for verification.
“Currently, anyone who has bought a physical unreserved ticket online or offline must carry it with them during the trip. But for digital unreserved tickets booked online, where no physical print has been taken, passengers can display the digital ticket on the same mobile phone used for booking for verification,” the Railways stated. The Ministry of Railways has implemented several measures to combat fake user IDs to ensure a smooth and hassle-free train ticket booking experience. This initiative is aimed at enhancing the ticketing system so that all passengers can easily book tickets using authentic and verified user IDs.
