This shows that people are very enthusiastic about getting rid of electricity bills and adopting clean energy.
What is the PM Surya Ghar Scheme?
The PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana (PMGSY) was launched with the mission of providing affordable and clean electricity to every household in the country. Under this scheme, the government provides subsidies for installing solar panels on rooftops. The goal is to provide up to 300 units of free electricity to families every month to reduce electricity costs and empower every household, from rural to urban, to become self-sufficient. In addition to saving on electricity bills, this scheme also provides the option to earn income by selling surplus electricity.
Loan Relief and Interest Rate Terms
The government is also offering affordable financing for installing solar panels. Consumers will only pay 6 percent interest on loans up to ₹2 lakh. For loans between ₹2 lakh and ₹6 lakh, the interest rate will be the same as a home loan. Those without a home loan will pay 1 percent more than the current home loan interest rate. Importantly, loans up to ₹2 lakh do not require any guarantee or collateral, providing significant relief to ordinary families.
Government Subsidy
The government is providing attractive subsidies on solar systems. Systems up to 2 kW receive a subsidy of ₹30,000 per kW. For systems up to 3 kW, an additional subsidy of ₹18,000 per kW is available. Overall, systems with a capacity of more than 3 kW can receive a maximum subsidy of ₹78,000. Benefits such as a flexible 10-year installment period, 6 months of EMI relief, and no additional prepayment charges are also attracting consumers to this scheme.
