PM Kusum Yojana: Farmers won’t have to roam around as much to water their fields anymore. The central government’s PM Kusum Yojana offers a chance to eliminate the need for diesel and electricity. Often, farmers face significant losses due to electricity or fuel costs. In this context, PM Kusum Yojana can be extremely advantageous for farmers. Essentially, this initiative allows both the central and state governments to provide subsidies to farmers for installing solar pumps. With these solar pumps, farmers can irrigate their fields and even generate income by using them on barren land. Experts say that to set up a one-megawatt solar plant, around 4 to 5 acres of land is needed. This can produce about 1.5 million units of electricity each year. Farmers can sell this electricity, leading to a considerable income.
What’s the subsidy amount?
Under the PM Kusum Yojana, the central government offers a 45 percent subsidy. State governments also chip in with their own subsidies, which vary by state. For instance, the Haryana government provides a 30 percent subsidy. This means farmers can receive a total of 75 percent in subsidies. This government initiative greatly assists farmers in boosting their income. Farmers typically use electric tube wells for irrigation, and even barren land can be utilized through this method.
