PM Kisan Scheme Update 2026: Government Confirms Direct Transfer of Funds – Check Eligibility

PM Kisan Update: Ahead of the 22nd installment of the PM Kisan Yojana (PM Kisan 22nd Installment), news of another major relief for farmers has emerged. Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan has advocated for transferring the annual fertilizer subsidy of Rs 1.7 lakh crore directly to farmers’ bank accounts. If this happens, farmers will have greater freedom and transparency in purchasing fertilizers.

The actual price of a bag of urea is around 2,400 rupees, but due to government subsidies, farmers get it for only 265-270 rupees. He said that if this subsidy is sent directly to farmers’ accounts (Fertilizer Subsidy Direct to Farmers) through DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer), then farmers will be able to decide for themselves which fertilizer to buy and in what quantity.

Currently, subsidy goes to fertilizer companies

Currently, the system is that subsidies are not directly distributed to farmers, but to fertilizer companies. The DBT system was implemented in 2018, but companies receive subsidies only after sales to farmers are verified. Now, the minister believes that direct payments will ensure that the true benefit goes to the farmer who applies the fertilizer.

To ensure farmers continue to receive affordable fertilizers, a subsidy of Rs 1.7 trillion has been provided. However, complaints have emerged from many quarters that despite the Indian government’s high fertilizer subsidies, farmers are still unable to access them in the field.

Information also given on Kisan Credit Card

The Agriculture Minister also emphasized the importance of farm mechanization and the use of modern irrigation techniques such as drip irrigation, sprinkler irrigation, polyhouse irrigation, and greenhouse irrigation. He emphasized the need for strict monitoring of funds allocated to states to ensure that the full benefits of these schemes reach the land.

Regarding the Kisan Credit Card (KCC), the minister also informed that 75% of the country’s small farmers are now receiving loans at a 4% interest rate (Kisan Credit Card 4% Interest). However, he added that the goal should not be simply to distribute loans, but to provide them on time and without delay.

The government’s focus is not limited to increasing grain production. The minister said that the goal now should be to increase farmers’ income through nutritious food, increased fruit and vegetable production, and integrated farming. The minister described the three-day Pusa Mela, which began on February 25, as a “National Mahakumbh” for farmers.

He directed that this event be held on a larger scale from next year, so that lab technology reaches the farm directly. This announcement, coming before the 22nd installment of PM Kisan (PM Kisan 22nd Installment Date), is being seen as a sign of greater economic freedom for farmers in the future.
