New projects for farmers have been announced under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Yojana, to support and promote the increase in crop and food grain production. New opportunities will also be created in sectors such as animal husbandry, fisheries, and food processing. These projects were sponsored by the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Yojana to commemorate the birth anniversary of socialist leader Jayaprakash Narayan, and you can read further about how farmers may benefit from these projects, as well as contain useful references to the government’s vision for the future.
One of the initiatives; the “Dal Atmanirbharta Mission” (Self-Reliance in Pulses project), will further enhance pulse production in the country, as well as reduce the import risks associated with pulses for the country. The initiative will inject ₹ 11,440 crore in central funding to increase the pulse production from again, 252.38 lakh tonnes to 350 lakh tonnes by the 2030-31 crop year, which includes a theoretical “Rabi” planting season, and extend to 2030-31. Again, the objective is to increase farmers income and ultimately improve food security around pulse production over a longer time period in a structured way. This initiative will be launched during “Rabi”, and you can read useful references to how it has been approved by the Union Cabinet.
How will the farmers benefit?
With the Dal Atmanirbharta Mission farmers will receive better seeds, newer farming technology, and improved market facilities. Pulses farmers will receive special education. This will aid them in decreasing costs of production, while increasing the yields. More farmers will be encouraged to grow pulses with the government assistance. This will help to increase the nation’s food supply chain and economic stability of the farmers.
