PM Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) 2025. More than half of the population in the country is dependent on income from agriculture-based work. Due to which the government is running various types of schemes for farmers. If the farmer’s crop is often damaged due to rain, storm, drought or insects throughout the year, then compensation can be given from the government under this scheme. However, farmers will have to apply here as per the conditions; only then will they get the benefit.

The thing to note is that due to the destruction of the crop of farmers, they have to suffer huge financial loss, due to which, if the crop is destroyed, the farmers do not break down completely; they can apply this scheme to the crops of the whole year. So that compensation can be given for the damage to the crop.

What is Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana?

Actually, Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), which was started on 18 February 2016, is a crop insurance scheme run by the Department of Agriculture Cooperation and Farmers Welfare of the Ministry of Agriculture. Through which the government gives compensation in case of crop loss.

To take advantage of this scheme, farmers have to pay a very low premium amount. Like only 2 per cent for the Kharif crop, 1.5 per cent for Rabi and 5 per cent for farmers who grow horticultural or commercial crops, here the government deposits the rest of the money.

Eligible farmers in the PM Fasal Bima Yojana

Not every farmer can apply in this scheme, eligibility conditions have been given for this. These are as follows.

  • All farmers growing crops in the notified area (including lessees/sharecroppers).
  • Farmer’s actual ownership of the insured crop
  • The farmer may be a farmer or a sharecropper.
  • Application is necessary within 2 weeks of sowing.
  • No compensation should have been taken earlier for the same crop loss.

When will you get the benefit?

If you have applied for the scheme, then you will get compensation if the crop is damaged due to any disaster. However, damage outside the crop cycle is usually not included in the insurance coverage. Keep in mind that if the loss is not directly related to sowing or the crop period, then compensation will not be given.
