There are several initiatives from the Narendra Modi government aimed at supporting various groups. One notable program is the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban 2.0 (PMAY-U 2.0). Recently, a meeting of the Central Approval and Monitoring Committee (CSMC) took place to discuss this scheme, resulting in the approval of plans for over 3.53 lakh homes. It’s worth mentioning that the government offers financial relief through this initiative.

Which states received approvals?

Under PMAY-U 2.0, a total of 3,52,915 homes were approved across 10 states and union territories: Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Odisha, Puducherry, Rajasthan, Telangana, and Uttar Pradesh. As of March 20, 2025, more than 2.67 lakh of these homes have been designated for women, including single women and widows. Additionally, 90 homes have been allocated to transgender individuals.

Notably, in Uttar Pradesh, the government is providing extra support under PMAY-U 2.0, offering Rs 30,000 to each senior citizen beneficiary over 70 years old, and Rs 20,000 to unmarried women over 40, widows, and separated women.

Implemented through four approaches

PMAY-U 2.0 operates through four main approaches: Beneficiary Led Construction (BLC), Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP), Affordable Rental Housing (ARH), and Interest Subsidy Scheme (ISS). Eligible beneficiaries can choose to benefit from any one of these approaches based on their needs and qualifications.

Financial aid of Rs 2.50 lakh

The scheme includes government support of Rs 2.30 lakh crore, backed by a total investment of ₹10 lakh crore. Families from the EWS/LIG/MIG categories who do not own a permanent house anywhere in the country can apply to buy or build a home under PMAY-U 2.0. Each housing unit receives central assistance of Rs 2.50 lakh.
