New Delhi: The first day of any month holds significant importance,as it often marks the implementation of various regulatory changes. Today,April 1st,2026,marks not only the beginning of the month but also the first day of the new financial year. Effective April 1,2026,several major changes regarding PAN cards have been introduced and implemented.
You will now be required to furnish your PAN card when purchasing a luxury vehicle (including for obtaining the associated insurance policy),as well as when buying or selling property,or when making payments exceeding ₹100,000 for any transaction. Additionally, presenting a PAN card has been made mandatory for depositing and withdrawing money at banks. Read on to learn,in detail, about the specific PAN card-related regulations that have come into effect.

PAN Card Requirements for Bank Cash Deposits
If you wish to withdraw or deposit an amount exceeding ₹10 lakh at any bank, presenting your PAN card is now mandatory. The previous threshold limit of ₹50,000 has been abolished as of April 1,2026. Given current economic realities, the ₹50,000 limit for mandatory PAN card submission was deemed insufficient and outdated, often leading to confusion and inconvenience for the public.
Penalty for Furnishing an Incorrect PAN Card
According to the new regulations,if an individual presents an incorrect PAN card or provides false information related to it,they will be liable to pay a penalty of approximately ₹10,000 under Section 27B of the Income Tax Act. Therefore, maintaining complete transparency is now of utmost importance.

Documents Required to Apply for a PAN Card
Under the revised regulations,it is no longer possible to obtain a PAN card merely by presenting an Aadhaar card. You are now required to submit additional supporting documents as well. Consequently, the process of obtaining a PAN card can no longer be completed solely based on an Aadhaar card; instead, the submission of multiple documents is now a prerequisite.
PAN Card Mandatory for Hotel Bill Payments
As per the new rules,if you need to make a payment exceeding ₹100,000—whether at a hotel,a banquet hall,or for any other service—presenting your PAN card has been made mandatory. The previous threshold limit of ₹50,000 has been discontinued effective April 1,2026. PAN Card Now Mandatory for Property Transactions
According to new regulations, effective April 1st,it will be mandatory to furnish a PAN card when buying or selling property valued at over ₹20 lakh. As of today, the previous threshold of ₹10 lakh has been discontinued.
Why is a PAN Card Required for Insurance Policies?
As per the new rules, effective today—April 1st—a PAN card has been made mandatory for purchasing an insurance policy. Regardless of the premium amount,an insurance policy cannot be obtained without a PAN card.
