PAN 2.0- The PAN card is no longer just a necessary document, but has become an advanced digital identification tool. This new system, called PAN 2.0, equips the PAN card with modern features such as a paperless process, a unified portal, and dynamic QR codes. It’s important to note that existing PAN cards remain fully valid. Old cardholders need not worry.
What is PAN 2.0 and why was it introduced?
It should be noted that PAN 2.0 was launched by the Ministry of Finance in November 2024. This latest technology in PAN cards aims to provide faster, transparent, and digital services to taxpayers. All PAN-related services will now be available on a single platform, making all processes easier than before. This step will prove to be a significant step in strengthening India’s digital footprint.
5 big benefits of PAN 2.0
Instant Processing: Instant online PAN card issuance.
Completely paperless: Document uploads will be minimal.
Improved security: Updated data protection and verification systems.
Digital Support: Facility to save PAN card in mobile or digital wallet.
Online Update: Easily update address, photo, signature etc.
Pan Card vs Pan Card 2.0
PAN cards issued before 2017 did not have a QR code, whereas PAN 2.0 now has a dynamic QR code. This means that when you scan the QR code, it will display updated information in real time. This will make it easier to verify users’ identities. Furthermore, identifying fake PAN cards will become much easier. This will help prevent fraud.
Do old PAN card holders have to do anything?
If you have an old PAN card, there’s no need to worry. Your old PAN card is still valid. If your card is from before 2017 and doesn’t have a QR code, you can get a new PAN 2.0 card if you wish—but it’s not mandatory. You won’t need it unless you need to make any updates to your PAN card. If you switch to PAN 2.0, many of your problems will be completely eliminated. You’ll be able to update your mobile number, email address, name, and date of birth on your PAN card at any time, free of charge, and easily. Additionally, you can also scan your QR code with a QR code reader app to verify your identity instantly.
