Orunodoi Scheme: Good news for women’s. In a notable example of welfare governance, Cachar district on Tuesday participated in the state-wide formal launch of Assam’s flagship financial assistance scheme for women, Orunodoi 3.0. Held across 1,575 polling stations, the launch began at 10:30 am and was telecast live at the state-level event led by Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma.
On the very first day, ₹1,250 each was directly credited into the accounts of 1.83 lakh women beneficiaries in Cachar, reflecting the commitment to efficiency, speed and transparency of the scheme. At Meherpur Durgabari, Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah inaugurated the program, interacted with attendees, and praised the district team for their seamless coordination. Deputy Commissioner Mridul Yadav (IAS) and other top officials were also present, ensuring proper implementation at all booths.
Earlier in the day, the Minister launched the scheme locally by lighting a ceremonial lamp at booth number 22 in Durga Palli (Borkhola LAC). Addressing the gathering, he described the scheme’s journey from ₹830/month in 2020 to the current ₹1,250/month in Orunodoi 3.0, benefiting 4 million women across Assam.
He highlighted the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system that eliminates middlemen and ensures corruption-free distribution. In Borkhola LAC alone, 25,980 women are beneficiaries, including 90 women from booth number 22. He acknowledged some cases that were missed due to documentation issues and assured them that they would be resolved. Financial assistance will be distributed on the 10th of every month going forward.
The scheme was first launched on December 1, 2020, and was extended to its second edition on December 14, 2022. Sarma claimed that the scheme has received praise from other states. Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, and Maharashtra have also implemented similar schemes.
