When will UPS launch?

UPS was launched by the central government. It was implemented on April 1, 2025. This scheme is an alternative to NPS. Employees will receive the benefit of a guaranteed pension. If an employee remains in NPS until September 30, they will no longer be able to join UPS. According to a report, more than 31,500 employees have already opted for UPS.

The central government has also provided a one-time option to return to NPS. This option can be exercised up to one year before retirement or three months before voluntary retirement. Employees can choose UPS freely.

These significant benefits will be available.

Under UPS, the guaranteed pension benefit is 50% of the average basic pay for the last 12 months after 25 years of service. The employee will receive a minimum of ₹10,000 per month. Most importantly, in the event of a pensioner’s sudden death, the spouse will receive 60% of the final pension. Tax benefits and other benefits under CCS rules will also be available.

For information, the benefits of UPS include a fixed pension and protection against inflation, while NPS funds are market-linked. Returns may be higher, but they are not guaranteed. Along with this, PFRDA clearly said that the employees should fill the form quickly, and in case of any problem online, they can use the offline facility.
