The viral post also claims that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is going to stop the distribution of ₹500 notes and that they will be gradually phased out of circulation. This message has created confusion among the general public, as the ₹500 note is the most commonly used denomination for everyday transactions.
What is the reality of the viral claim?

When a fact-check was conducted to verify the truth of this viral post, the claim was found to be completely false. The Press Information Bureau’s (PIB) fact-checking team clarified that the Reserve Bank of India has not issued any new instructions regarding ₹500 notes. There is no plan to remove them from ATMs, nor are they being phased out of circulation.
The PIB shared this information through its X (formerly Twitter) account, stating that such claims are completely misleading and are being spread with the intention of deceiving people.

₹500 notes are completely valid
The PIB fact-checking team also clarified that ₹500 notes are still legal tender and people can use them without any problems. The RBI has neither stopped the distribution of these notes nor made any announcement about discontinuing them in the future.
