The government has made it clear that no negligence will be tolerated when it comes to traffic rules. In some cases, a single offense can result in a fine of up to ₹25,000, 3 years of imprisonment, and vehicle confiscation. Strict action will be taken, especially in cases of underage driving, drunk driving, overloading, and running red lights.

Government Implements 10 Major Traffic Rules

It is important to note that strict action will now be taken on every rule, from drunk driving to helmet use, seat belts, and overloading. If you drive a vehicle, it is crucial to know these rules, as even a small lapse in judgment can have serious consequences.

Heavy Penalties for Drunk Driving

If a person is caught driving under the influence of alcohol, they may face a fine of ₹10,000 and 6 months of imprisonment for the first offense. If the same mistake is repeated, the fine can increase to ₹15,000, and the jail sentence can extend up to 2 years. Previously, the fine was much lower.

Driving Without a Helmet Will Result in License Suspension

Now, driving a two-wheeler without a helmet will attract a fine of ₹1,000, and the driving license may be suspended for 3 months. Previously, only a nominal fine was imposed.

Do Not Use Mobile Phones While Driving

If caught using a mobile phone while driving, a fine of ₹500 will be imposed for the first offense. If the same mistake is repeated, a fine of up to ₹5,000 will be levied. Fine for not wearing a seat belt. Now, wearing a seat belt is mandatory, whether you’re sitting in the front or back. Breaking this rule will result in a fine of ₹1,000.

Fine for three people on a motorcycle

If you are found carrying three people on a two-wheeler, you will be fined ₹1,000. This fine can go up to ₹5,000 for dangerous stunts or reckless driving.

Zero tolerance for underage driving

If a person under 18 years of age is caught driving, the matter will be taken very seriously. In such a situation, the penalties can include up to 3 years of imprisonment, a fine of ₹25,000 on the parents, cancellation of the vehicle’s registration for 1 year, and the driver’s license will not be issued until the age of 25.

Heavy fine for not giving way to ambulances

Not giving way to emergency services, especially ambulances, will now result in a fine of ₹10,000. Previously, this amount was significantly lower.

Strict action against overloading and running red lights

Overloading a vehicle with more goods or passengers than the prescribed limit can result in a fine of up to ₹20,000. Running a red light will incur a fine of ₹5,000.

Driving without insurance can lead to jail time

If a vehicle is caught without valid insurance, the penalty can include a fine of ₹2,000, 3 months of imprisonment, and community service. For a repeat offense, the fine will increase to ₹4,000.

Fine and jail time for not having a pollution certificate

If a vehicle does not have a valid PUC (Pollution Under Control) certificate, a fine of ₹10,000, 6 months of imprisonment, and community service can be imposed.
