DA Hike – 5% DA Hike for Employees, Know the Big Update

New Delhi: The question of when central government employees will receive the much-awaited benefits of the new Pay Commission and a hike in Dearness Allowance (DA) remains a major topic of discussion. However, preempting this, the Tripura state government has already opened its coffers to shower benefits upon its employees. The state government has announced a 5 per cent hike in DA, a move set to give salaries a significant boost.

The new rates for the Dearness Allowance will come into effect from April 1, 2026. Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha made the announcement regarding the DA hike. Employees had been waiting for this increase in Dearness Allowance with great anticipation for quite some time. The government, however, chose to deliver this welcome gift during the final month of the financial year.

How Much Has the DA Increased?

The decision to hike the DA was taken during the Tripura Legislative Assembly session, while discussions regarding the state’s financial plan were underway. Consequently, the Dearness Allowance for employees will now rise to 41 per cent. Previously, the total DA for employees stood at 3 per cent. Now, a larger portion of their basic salary will be added to their total emoluments in the form of DA.

Furthermore, this increase in DA will have a direct impact on monthly income. For an employee with a basic salary of ₹30,000, a percentage DA hike translates to a monthly increase of ₹1,500. Based on this calculation, the employee will receive approximately ₹18,000 in additional income annually. This financial boost is expected to come as a piece of good news amidst the prevailing inflationary pressures.

How Many Employees Will Benefit?

A large number of employees are set to benefit from this decision by the Tripura government. According to reports, approximately 1.83 lakh individuals—including a significant number of serving government employees as well as retired pensioners—will be the beneficiaries of this move. The government has taken this step in light of the pressures caused by inflation, a measure that is expected to prove effective.

When Will Central Employees’ DA Increase?

It is worth noting that central government employees are currently awaiting an increase in their Dearness Allowance. The government is expected to announce the DA hike for the first half of the new year—2026—very soon. It is anticipated that this time around, the Dearness Allowance may see an increase of up to 2 per cent. This could lead to a substantial hike in the salaries of central government employees.
