The Madhya Pradesh government has launched the PM Krishi Mitra Surya Yojana to empower the agricultural sector. Under this scheme, farmers are being provided with solar-powered irrigation systems, making farming less dependent on electricity and more reliant on a self-sustaining energy source. This initiative is considered a major step towards making farming more sustainable and affordable in rural areas.

Scheme Based on PM-KUSUM Model
This scheme is modelled after the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM). Under this program, farmers will receive solar-powered pumps that will operate using sunlight during the day. This will eliminate dependence on diesel or grid electricity and also benefit the environment.
Up to 90 Percent Government Subsidy
The government is bearing 90 percent of the total cost of this scheme. 50 percent of the subsidy will be provided by the central government and 40 percent by the state government. Farmers will only have to pay 10 percent of the cost themselves. This cost includes all necessary components such as the solar pump, motor, panels, pipeline, and control system.
Solar Pumps at Affordable Prices
The government is providing solar pumps ranging from 2 HP to 10 HP. A 2 HP pump will be available for approximately Rs. 15,000, while farmers will have to contribute around Rs. 58,000 for a 10 HP pump. This cost is significantly lower than the market price, making it easily accessible to small and medium-sized farmers.
