hundred for yashasvi Jaiswal
After being ignored by the national selectors in the T20 team, Yashasvi Jaiswal played a key role in defending champions Mumbai’s four-wicket win over Haryana by smashing a 48-ball century in the Super League B match of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy on Sunday. After a one-sided defeat against Hyderabad in their Super League opener, Mumbai chased down Haryana’s target of 235 runs with the help of knocks from Jaiswal (101 off 50 balls) and Sarfaraz Khan (64 off 24 balls) to post 238 for six in 17.3 overs.
Jaiswal and Sarfaraz added 88 runs in just 6.1 overs to keep Mumbai’s hopes of qualifying for the final alive. During the post-match prize distribution ceremony, Jaiswal even invited Sarfaraz along with him to receive the Man of the Match cheque of Rs 50,000. Earlier, Haryana captain Ankit Kumar (89 runs in 42 balls) and talented all-rounder Nishant Sindhu (63 runs in 38 balls) added 110 runs in just 8.1 overs to take the team to 234 runs for three wickets in 20 overs.

Veteran Ajinkya Rahane scored 21 runs in 10 balls for Mumbai. Haryana’s fast bowlers bowled at a speed of 125 to 130 kmph, making it easy for Mumbai batsmen to score runs on a flat pitch. Jaiswal played pull and ramp shots. He hit 16 fours in his innings. Sarfaraz also strengthened his claim for the IPL auction by scoring a half-century in just 16 balls. Shubman Gill, who is included in the national team, is not very impressive in the top order and hence, Chairman of Selection Committee Ajit Agarkar and Head Coach Gautam Gambhir will be keeping an eye on Jaiswal before the T20 International series against New Zealand.
