What is the Namo Drone Didi Scheme?
This scheme was launched to teach women how to use drone technology in agricultural work. Under this scheme, rural women receive 2 to 4 weeks of training, including drone flying, maintenance, spraying techniques, and field operations. Upon completion, women can become certified drone pilots. This process is monitored through government-recognized institutions.
Objective of the Scheme
The primary objective of the scheme is to technically empower women’s self-help groups. Drone technology allows women to better apply fertilizers, pesticides, and nutrients to agricultural fields. This will reduce farmers’ costs, increase production, and allow women to earn income by providing services. This is considered a major step towards strengthening the rural economy and encouraging women to become entrepreneurs.
Subsidy and Loan Facility
Under this scheme, self-help groups are provided with up to 80 percent subsidy on drone purchases. A maximum of ₹8 lakh (approximately ₹8 lakh) is available. The remaining amount will be covered by a loan under the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund (AIF) at a mere 3% interest rate. This provision makes it easier for rural women to purchase drones and start their own businesses.
Eligibility and Application Process
Only women who are members of self-help groups will be eligible for this scheme. They must be between 18 and 45 years of age and residents of rural areas. Currently, there is no online portal available for application. Interested women will need to contact the SHG group in their area or the relevant rural development office. Applications will be online, and upon selection, women will receive training in drone operation.
