On behalf of the state government, the government has made an important effort to protect the farmers who own livestock through a new program called Mangala Pashu Bima Yojana. The program is a part of the budget for FY 2025-26, and it is a free program to provide insurance for all types of livestock such as cows, buffalo, sheep, goats and camels.

The online registration process has been launched for livestock owners to register for the program. Livestock owners can register through either a mobile application or an online portal. The government has taken an active approach under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, and Animal Husbandry Minister Zoraram Kumawat, to implement the Mangala Pashu Bima Yojana initiative as quickly as possible.

They get it — for a lot of families, livestock isn’t just part of the farm, it’s their main source of income. Losing even one animal can hit hard, both emotionally and financially. That’s why this insurance matters. It gives real relief when families face those tough losses, helping them get back on their feet.

So, what exactly is the Chief Minister Mangala Pashu Bima Yojana? The government announced it in the 2024-25 budget (point number 132) to give livestock owners a stronger safety net.

Here’s what’s covered, for free:

  • 5 lakh dairy cows
  • 5 lakh buffaloes
  • 5 lakh sheep
  • 5 lakh goats
  • 1 lakh camels

The government is putting ₹400 crore into this scheme. If a farmer’s animal dies accidentally, the insurance steps in with financial help. It’s all about protecting livelihoods and giving families peace of mind.

Benefits of the Chief Minister Mangala Pashu Bima Yojana

  • Livestock owners get risk coverage for their animals.

  • The government provides financial help if an animal dies due to accident or illness.

  • Poor and middle-class livestock owners gain financial security.

  • The insurance is completely free; livestock owners do not pay any premium.

How Many Animals Can Be Insured on a Single Janadhaar Card?

Under the scheme, livestock owners can insure:

  • 2 milch cows or 2 milch buffaloes

  • 10 goats

  • 10 sheep

  • 10 camels

The government has also set district-wise targets. For example:

  • 12,000 milch cows

  • 14,200 buffaloes

  • 16,000 sheep

  • 11,000 goats

  • 400 camels

How the Insurance Amount is Determined

The Rajasthan government sets the insurance amount based on the type of animal:

Milk Buffalo Based on milk production per liter, max ₹40,000
Female Goat Max ₹4,000 per animal
Female Sheep Max ₹4,000 per animal
Camel Max ₹40,000 per animal

Note: In case of a dispute over pricing, the veterinarian’s decision is final.

How to Register for the Scheme

The state government made registration fully online. Livestock farmers can register using:

Farmers without internet access can apply through e-Mitra kiosks. Registrations are first-come, first-served, and the portal closes automatically when the target is reached.

Special Insurance Camps in Villages

Dr. Sunil Ghiya, Joint Director of the Animal Husbandry Department, said insurance agents and veterinarians will organize special camps in villages after registration.

  • Camps start from December 1 in various revenue villages.

  • Farmers can register their animals on the spot.

  • He urged livestock owners to register quickly because the portal closes when the target is reached.

Impact of the Scheme

The scheme will provide relief to millions of livestock families across the state.
