LPG Cylinder Alert! Know How to Get Extra Gas Connection for Marriage & Functions

Lpg Price

LPG Cylinder: Organizing food and beverages is a significant concern when planning a wedding or a large family gathering. In such cases, not receiving a gas cylinder on time can put the entire preparation at risk. Currently, the ongoing tensions in the Gulf countries are impacting the supply of LPG gas in India.

On regular days, individuals often have to stand in long queues for even a single cylinder, while major events like weddings typically require 8 to 10 cylinders. To tackle this issue, the authorities have set up a temporary solution that allows you to borrow additional gas cylinders. This service is mainly provided in the form of commercial (19 kg) cylinders to prevent the misuse of domestic gas.

How to apply?

If you are hosting a wedding or a large event at home, it is essential to apply ahead of time.

Your nearest gas agency
District Supply Office
or District Magistrate’s Office
You can reach out to any of these places. By applying promptly, you will receive a cylinder without any trouble.

What documents will you need?

To obtain an extra cylinder, you will have to submit some key documents.

wedding invitation card
Aadhar card
application
Based on these documents, you will be granted a temporary connection.

A security deposit will be required

To acquire a commercial cylinder, you will need to pay the price of the cylinder along with a security deposit. Thankfully, this amount is refundable upon termination. So, if you have a wedding or a significant event approaching, don’t delay until the last moment. Apply early to ensure your event runs smoothly and without any issues.

Current tax calculations on LPG and PNG

Currently, different tax slabs apply to cooking gas and piped gas. LPG cylinders for domestic use are covered under GST and currently attract a 5% GST. On the other hand, the government levies a hefty 18% GST on commercial cylinders used in hotels, restaurants, and eateries. Piped gas (PNG) is currently outside the scope of GST. This is why different state governments impose their own VAT on it. For example, Delhi imposes a 5% VAT on PNG, while in some other states the rate is as high as 14.5%.

How much will the removal of tax affect your pocket?

According to CTI’s demand, if the government removes 5% GST on domestic gas cylinders, there will be a huge drop in prices. For example, in Delhi, a domestic gas cylinder is currently available for around Rs 913. After the removal of the tax, it will become cheaper by around Rs 43 and will cost Rs 869.52. The biggest relief will be given to commercial users. With 18% GST, the price of a commercial cylinder in Delhi is currently Rs 2,078.50. If it is made tax-free, it will directly become cheaper by Rs 317 and will come down to Rs 1,761.44. This is also expected to make eating and drinking outside cheaper.
