Lakshmir Bhandar Scheme: Women to Get Up to ₹1,700 Allowance Without Swasthya Sathi, Know New Rules

One of the successful initiatives of the state government for the self-reliance of women in West Bengal is the ‘Lakshmi Bhandar’ scheme. The state government has announced several major changes to make this scheme more popular by 2026. As a result of this new guideline, the application process has become smoother for ordinary women in rural and urban areas. Especially, this is a big relief for those who were unable to apply due to lack of documents.

Swasthya Sathi Card Obstacle Removed

Until now, it was mandatory to have a ‘Swasthya Sathi’ card while applying for the Lakshmi Bhandar scheme. Many women were deprived of the benefits of this scheme as they did not have their own or family’s Swasthya Sathi card. But with the new rules, the state government has said that from now on, Swasthya Sathi card is no longer mandatory. That is, women can apply even if they do not have a card and get the benefits of the scheme. However, those who have a card can submit it, but if it is not there, the application will not be rejected.

Increase in allowance amount: How much money will you get?
Not only the application rules have been simplified, but major changes have also been made in the amount of allowance. The amount of financial assistance has been increased keeping in mind the current market rates:

Eligibility and Conditions of Application

To ensure that the benefits of the scheme reach the right beneficiaries, certain eligibility criteria have been set:

  • The applicant must be a permanent resident of West Bengal.
  • The age limit should be between 25 and 60 years. After completing 60 years, they will automatically come under the old age allowance.
  • Government employees or those who are receiving regular government pension cannot apply for this scheme.

Documents required for government jobs

To complete the application process, self-attested copies of the following documents must be submitted along with the form:

Aadhar Card: The name and spelling of the form should be as per the Aadhar card.

Bank Passbook: The name of the bank, account number and IFSC code should be clearly visible.

Coloured passport size photograph and active mobile number.

SC/ST Certificate: If applicable.

Where and how to apply?

The block administration has informed that the Lakshmi Bhandar form is being submitted at the BDO (Block) office throughout the year. Apart from this, the form can also be collected and submitted from the ‘Duare Sarkar’ camp. The form can be obtained both online and offline. The work is completed by filling the form with correct information, attaching the necessary documents and submitting it to the concerned office.

It is expected that lakhs of women in the state will benefit from this step of the state government. This is a new opportunity especially for those who were unable to apply due to lack of a card even after completing 25 years.
